Shoes of the Week 24/07/13 - Iron Fist Society Suicide Booties

Hi Guys

Firstly I would like to apologise for not posting last week. This was because my lovely sister graduated in Cardiff and we were on a little holiday down there without any laptops or Wi-Fi to speak of. It was very bizarre sitting in the ceremony knowing that I will be in same position in 2 years time.

Last week also saw this little blog hit its 1 year anniversary ! So I will be doing a special post all about this and hopefully a giveaway - keep your eyes peeled.

This weeks shoes of the week were purchased last week in Cardiff courtesy of the Bank of Dad. I'm not quite sure when I am going to wear them but I'm sure they will be admired when I do.

My shoes of the Week are Iron Fist Society Suicide Booties

 

These certainly do not fit the name they have been given as you will most likely be the envy of society than committing society suicide.

 

The sateen material is patterned with pink roses, blue flowers and tropical birds on the outside and leopard print inners. They lace up fully at the front and zip up at the back to allow ease of access as well as comfort. The heel height is 4" at the back , platform of around half an inch at the front.

 

They also have a cute little peep toe to show off your painted toe nails.



 

These were purchased in a shop in the Cardiff Arcades and were reduced to clear as they were no longer stocking Iron Fist Shoes.

I got these in a size 8 (Eu 41) and was a little shocked to find they fit. I generally find Iron Fist to be a bit small and narrow on the sizing but with these being fully adjustable at the front I can get them on and off easily.

Cath Kidson Sale Haul !

Hi Guys

As I mentioned in earlier posts , I went to Brighton this week. I had never been before and it was something which had been recommended to me several times because I love the seaside and hunting through all the various quirky/kitch/retro shops that normally appear there.

Brighton did not disappoint. I took a walk along the pebble beach, strolled along the seafront, played games on the pier, wandered around the pavilion and thoroughly enjoyed rooting through all the stores in the Lanes.

At the moment it is summer sale time for most shops as they begin to phase out there S/S13 collections and replace them with the A/W collection. This fact enticed me into looking into the Brighton Branch of the Cath Kidson Stores.

I always love the various vintage stylings that you can pick up in Cath Kidson but I can vary rarely afford to pick up much. However, in the sale, I was able to pick up several items for less than the full price of one.

Primark Picks - Jan 2013

Whilst I have a bit of free time I thought I would do this lovely blog post for you. As you can tell from the title this is essentially my Primark haul from January. I've been on a couple of trips recently and accumulated a fair amount of stuff which I love and have worn. Having a Primark at the top of the road is a blessing and a curse because you can never just pick up the one thing and I had to make 2 trips last week because I got distracted and didn't actually buy what I went in for (I'm sure I'm not the only one who has done this ?).

To try and reduce the amount of photos I have grouped similar items together.

Shoes of the Week 09/01/13 - Office Playdays

Hey guys

Happy New Year !

I hope you have had a good time off and enjoyed the holidays. I think this time of the year is always the busiest as everyone gets filled with the party spirit or, in my case, a cold.

2013 is looking to be a pretty busy year again for me as I complete my first year at Uni and aim to find a house in London. I move back to halls at the weekend which has meant more stress over packing (especially how to fit all my sales bargains in  !)  and completing work on time. I can't wait to get back to the big city and continue exploring as much as possible.

This holidays has seen me buy 5 (!) pairs of shoes which makes picking out shoes of the week even more difficult as post Christmas debt and pre student loan makes me lust more for shoes I can't afford. However , if you are a thrifty spender I have found a lovely everyday pair for a bargain payday price.

Sale Shoe Shopping - New Look , Topshop and Primark

Hi guys

I hope you have all had a fabulous Christmas and haven't stuffed yourself with too much turkey. I had a good day but my favourite bit of Christmas is definitely Boxing day where you can hit the sales , enjoy the left overs and relax that everything is almost done until next year.

This post is here to show you my most recent shoe purchases. Some of these were bought last week on my trip to the Manchester and the others have been purchased in the last couple of days.

My first pair were purchased in New Look during their Shoe Sale.

 

Suede Booties with elasticated side panel

These are great everyday shoes that go with everything. I really like the fact that they are slightly pointed and have a small (about an inch) heel which means you can wear them on a night out with out feeling silly wearing flats.

Next pair were also from New Look and were my shoes of the week on 23/12/12.

I have had my eyes on these for a while but didn't feel like I would wear them enough to spend £13 on them. I spotted these on sale in the Manchester Primark and picked them up without second thought. They have already been on a night out and are really comfy and warm.

 

I also picked up this pair in Primark.

Whilst they were not on sale I fell in love with these straight away. I  really love the nautical theme for spring and have many things to mix and match. At £8 these are a bargain.

 

 

The latest pair I have picked up are Dr Martens from Topshop.

 

 

Carrie Cut Out Floral Dr Marten Shoes

These have been in my local Topshop for ages. I would go in and pick them up, comment on how lovely they were and put them back. On Boxing day I rose early to hit the sales and eventually made it around to the store and found these on the sale rack. After much umming and ahhing I put them back because £40 was still a lot to spend.

 

However as I was at the till paying for some other bits I remembered you could use your student card to get 10% off even in the sales. This meant these lovelies were just £36. Needless to say I headed back to the shoe section to try and find them in my size. Luck was in hand and I walked out with another bag (and box) in hands.

I think this takes my Dr Marten count up to 7. I blame my Dad for ever introducing me to them.

Shoes of the Week 17/11/12 - Vans Hello Kitty SK8 -Hi

Hi all

This week has seen me on a lot of train journeys and travelling around the UK.

Last weekend I took a trip back home to see my family and catch up on sleep / eat proper food. Both of these were accomplished and it felt really good to be home (even if it was just for 2 days).

On Wednesday I also took a trip. This time to see one of my friends who is studying at the University of Warwick, based in Coventry. I booked tickets through London Midland as they were cheaper but this also meant a longer journey than it would have been if travelling through Virgin. We had a wander through Coventry and a nosey in a few of the shops before taking a bus to the Uni campus.

Warwick Campus is huge and in the middle of nowhere. After a tour I realised how glad I was that I am in the centre of a city with a Tesco 5 mins away. I met the flatmates and spent the afternoon catching up over coffee before heading to the pub for a proper tea. It was good to see a friendly face after being away for so long and to get out into the country (even if I'm a city girl at heart).

This weeks shoes have been picked simply because I bought them last weekend whilst I was at home. I have a slight affection for hello kitty and this is the second pair of shoes inspired by that cat that I now own.

My shoes of the week are Hello Kitty Vans Sk8 Hi Slim

 

If you have read some of my previous posts you will know that I find Vans as one of the comfiest pairs of shoes a person can own. They are originally designed for skateboarding so offer great cushioning the the soles of your feet and the high tops give great ankle support.

 

I came across this design a while ago but felt that at a full price of  £55 they had the designer price tag to match the, albeit, cute design. However, these are currently in the sale for £30 and I managed to get student discount on top making the beauties worth splashing my student loan on.

 

They feature white hello kitty outlines along the back and side of the shoe with the front and tab made from a suedette material. The laces contrast nicely in white and they come with a big red detachable bow which can be place anywhere along the laces or removed depending on your preference.

 

They hit just above the ankle (similar to hi top converse) but have extra padding along the backs so they do not rub or blister your feet. The lining is bright red and they have the traditional Vans waffle sole.

 

I got these in a size 7 as this was the largest size they had at that time but I have had both sz 7 and 8s in the past from vans which have fitted well. I think this mostly depends on the style of the shoe. The 7s fit comfortably and I can walk around easily without fear of putting my toes through the front.

 

I think this is a great partnership and this pair is not the only design available from Hello Kitty so if you fancy a cute comfy pair of trainers I suggest you take a look online or in your local Schuh store.

 

Overall I give an 8 / 10 - Great shoes, great design and great comfort.

Shoes of the Week - 08/11/12 Deichmann Heeled Chelsea Boot

Hi all

This week has been quite busy so far (and we are only on thursday).

On Monday it was Bonfire Night as well as the start of the light switch ons across London. Oxford Street was the main event to go to as Lawton , Leona Lewis and Robbie Williams all performed a few songs before hitting the plunger to light our way back. The event was supposed to start at 5pm and I got there at 5.30 after my class was cancelled meaning I still got to see most of the action. Jamie Theakston and Emma Bunton hosted and we were all done by 6.30pm.

 I then went on a group trip up to Primrose Hill at 8pm to watch the fireworks that were going on across the rest of London. It's a really great spot as you can see every main landmark for miles around and it was really beautiful as all the building were lit up with fireworks behind them.

The rest of this week has been spent doing work and assignments that are due in next week. Im trying to get a bit ahead of myself because I am going home for the weekend ! This was not my original plan but due to changes in people coming to visit me and timings for train tickets it made more sense for me to go back for a few days.

However, it seems I couldn't have picked a worse week as this week is generally known as "Hell" week around LSE. Basically every module or course you take give you exam work or essays to complete on top of the normal work load with a 1 week turn around. But still ... I get to go home :)

This has meant a few late nights so far but I know it will be worth it in the long run.

For this weeks shoes I looked at some of the more obscure shoe suppliers to see what new designs were surfacing. I think you will agree I found a great pair at a great price.

My shoes of the week are Deichmann Heeled Chelsea Boot

These boots are ideal for the holiday season coming up. Adding a bit of glamour to an outfit with glitter covered backs and a stacked heel they also have the added comfort that comes from the chelsea boot style.

These boots are definitely going to give you an edge when walking around town. The simplistic design gives them an understated edge suitable to be worn day and night. An approximate 3 inch heel allows your legs to be shown off but without the pressure on the balls of your feet and the elasticated panel allows them to be taken on and off easily.

These will look great worn with leggings , cropped trousers , tights ... The list is endless.

I think one of the main selling factors for me is the current price - £12.49 ! reduced from £24.99.
You can't even get a decent pair of trainers for that price let alone boots that can be worn again and again. They also come in a wide range of sizes (3-8).

For Deichmann I think this is one of their best designs currently on sale but as I was browsing I also came across several other pairs I would have in a heartbeat. I reccommend having a nosy on the website because I think you will be surprised at what you find.

Overall I give 7 / 10 - Great boots for christmas but unlikely to be worn after 2012.

Shoes of the Week - 17/10/12 Dr Martens 1460 Boot (Black Smooth)

Hi all

This weeks been pretty busy for me as I have finally started classes and my proper timetable. This means lots of reading , assignments, time spent in the library and time wasted wishing I was in bed. This term is going to be one of the better timetables as 2 modules (courses) of my degree don't start until after Christmas so here's looking forward to that !

However one of the perks of LSE is that all students get Wednesday afternoons off and since I don't have any lectures or classes on a Wednesday this means I get a day off. Admittedly this is probably the best time to do work and catch up with coursework etc - not go to the Topshop sale like I did. . .

Whoops ?!

Well, with the flagship store on my doorstep I could hardly not (That's my story and I'm sticking to it). By the time I searched from top to toe and combed through the rails I had about £200 worth in my hand. Upon realising my student budget this was cut down to £40 for 3 tops (2 in the sale and 1 not). Photos of these will probably follow in a couple of posts as I aim to do a London Haul of all the clothes and stuff I have picked up since getting here.

For the rest of the day I met up with a friend from home who is also studying in London at QMUL. We had dinner out and then went for a wander around the Museum of London before parting so we could both get some work done.
 
I have chosen this weeks shoes as they are from a brand I love and a pair of classics.

My shoes of the week are Dr Martens 1460 Boot

Taken from the Dr Marten Originals collection these boots are a pair of British classics. Worn since 1947 by housewives and punks alike you can agree that this is a pair of shoes that will go with anything. This particular design was created in 1960 and the trademark "Air Wair" soles and yellow stitching around the rubber soon became a big hit.

I picked this style as these were my first pair of DMs which I wore as school shoes in 2006. They take some getting used to and, as any wearer of Dr Martens will know, take a lot of time/effort to break in. However once this process has finished  you are left with boots that are moulded exactly to your feet and give you all the support you need whilst offering comfort over long distances.

Since my first pair in 2006 I have expanded my collection to reach 6 pairs. These range from wellies to my more recent purchases at the dr-martens-manchester-store-opening.

These boots and brand have also increased in popularity over the last few years leading to cheap knock offs being found in Primark and prices rocketing to deal with the demand.

From the official Dr Martens website - www.drmartens.co.uk - the above pair cost £100 but if you search on eBay or around your local area you are bound to find a registered trader who offers slightly cheaper prices. This pair are in the "Black Smooth" version but the style of boot (1460) also comes in a variety of colours (purple, pink , cherry red, etc)  or,  if these aren't your cup of tea, have a nosey around as DMs come in over 100 different varieties.

If you are thinking about buying a pair of winter boots this year which are both practical and stylish then I would definitely recommend these. Although they don't look like much the variety of outfits and change they can bring to an outfit is outstanding.

As I feel these are a pair of shoe classics I am not going to rate them just say that everyone should have a pair of Dr Martens in their closet.

New Look Sale Stuff (Small Haul)

This is just a quick post to show off what I have bought in the New Look Sale. I regularly shop in New Look so the sale is a must shop opportunity. This was perfect for me as it has fallen just before I head off to Uni.

I didn't pick up as much as I would do normally because I'm trying to save some money for shopping in London next week but I still picked up 5 items.

The first item is this Blue and Black Striped Peplum Style top.

This is was previously put in work/office range area of my local store but I really liked the collar and peplum style combined. As a curvy lady the peplum hides a multitude of sins whilst the collar gives it a bit of quirk.                                                                                                    Normal Price : £16.99     Sale Price : £9

 

The Next Item I picked up were these Leather Panelled Leggings.

 

 I bought a pair similar to these in the Next Sale at the beginning of summer and LOVE them so when I saw these in my size I had to pick them up.                          Normal Price: £12.99       Sale Price: £6

 

I also picked up this Body Con Zip Front Dress.

 

This dress looks great on and will go with a multitude of shoes. I intend to be rocking this during freshers week when I want a quick going out outfit.

The last piece of clothing I picked up was a Khaki Skull Printed Oversized T-shirt.

 

Khaki green isn't a colour I would normally go for but I really liked the skull design and it is everywhere at the minute so I thought I'd give it a try.

The last item I picked up was a pair of shoes. Normally I don't really pick up trainer type shoes in New Look as I have found them to be narrow and short on the sizes but I went out on a limb for these and was pleased to discover they fit nicely.
